HISD Project Prom 2019
Project Prom this weekend to help students in need receive free formal attire
Houston — The Houston Independent School District Student Assistance Department will provide free dresses, tuxedos, shoes, and accessories to hundreds of homeless and at-risk high school seniors planning to go to prom. The event will include motivational speakers and health services, including meningitis shots which are required for all incoming Texas college students.
The HISD Homeless Education Office is a grant-funded program that currently serves approximately 6,000 homeless students throughout the district.
The Project Prom initiative was created to provide prom attire to homeless, foster care, and economically disadvantaged youth. In addition to prom attire, students receive college & career readiness resources and career gear. The event also hosts a parent empowerment summit for the parents who accompany their students to the event.
Sabrina was one of the guest speakers at the event’s breakout sessions; among Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Ryan George, Mayor Sylvester Turner, and many other inspiring trailblazers. She was mentoring the students on the signs of domestic violence and abuse, teen pregnancy, addiction, and issues affecting the community.
